Sustainability

Since its inception in 1986, Andiata’s core mission has been designing fashion to last from one generation to the next. Sustainability in all its aspects – timeless style, durability of high-quality materials as well as responsible and transparent manufacturing processes with a low environmental impact – are at the center of Andiata’s company values. Andiata's ideology of quality over quantity is reflected in every aspect of the design process – we release only two seasonal collections annually and use only the finest of materials in our designs. In Andiata design studio in Helsinki, our design team works closely together with our own pattern makers and seamstresses to produce garments with impeccable tailoring and craftmanship – our centralized working method has the added benefit of decreasing logistics needs, thus reducing our carbon footprint.

MATERIAL CARE

Taking care of your garments is an integral part of consuming fashion sustainably. When cared for properly, the garments and fabrics endure the wear year after year, maintaining their shape, properties as well as their resale value.

Wash and dry your garments according to the care label’s instructions and store them carefully on a hanger in a closet avoiding direct sunlight. When caring for denim pieces or high-quality knitwear, less is more approach is usually recommended – wash them only when dirty and between washes air them after every use to keep them fresh.

Knits may pill over time, but the pilling is easily removed with a cashmere comb without damaging the material. To store them, fold knits on light stacks to keep them fluffy. We also recommend folding cotton T-shirts to prevent them from stretching.

While caring for shoes and leather garments, it is important to keep the leather supple and soft. Wipe leather clean with a cloth or a brush and use conditioning cream as well as protective wax to keep material from cracking and getting dirty.

Conditioning your shoes once or twice a year is enough, usually after winter months. To give your shoes a rest, do not wear them for consecutive days. This helps the leather to dry and breathe between wears. Remember to also regularly replace the heel of your shoe.
